They delivered the lumber for our house on Monday. We are total nerds and take pictures of every detail. Seriously, we took pictures of the stacks of lumber... It's so much fun building our dream home!
Day 1 of framing |
My favorite picture of our living room! Look at that sky! |
We laugh at how much our life has changed these past two years. I always new we'd do something big. I imagined it would be much later in life. Here we are moving out into the country, beginning a large vineyard, and building our dream home.
Oh yeah, and we are suddenly inheriting two horses, getting a puppy {edit: not the giant dog we originally thought}, and building pens for pigs and steers??? No seriously. This all happened within a day, and all Rusty's ideas I might add. My friends laugh at the way he just randomly calls me some days with the most outrageous news. It's fun!
This is the way our life works. When something out of the ordinary occurs, it's like a domino effect. And I love it. Keeps us on our toes :) You never know when that last domino has fallen, or if there are 20 more to go.
Not many people live like we do. Really, Rusty sleeps in his pickup 4 months out of the year. It's called hay season at our house. One day, on the way to the farm, Rusty hit a deer with his GIANT pickup (he was ok, deer, not so much). He then encountered a real live cattle drive while moving the tractor to another place. As they were passing him on the road, one of the cowboys (who ended up being a cowgirl) stopped him and asked him if he wanted a kitten. She had found a kitten in the middle of nowhere! (No kittens for the Dutton household, yet anyway)
So I'm telling him about how funny his phone calls were that day and he starts laughing and says, "Do you want to know what happened today?" He was at a convenience store filling up with diesel. He looks over at a pickup with a large cattle trailer pulling into the parking lot. A second look confirms what he thought he saw, a trailer full of BUFFALO. We've lived in West Texas our whole lives! We've seen trailers full of horses, cattle, and even pigs. Never buffalo.
I live a crazy fun life. I never know if I'll be driving tractor for Rusty, attending a PTA meeting, taking a picnic to the tractor so we can have dinner as a family, or jumping in the pickup to drive 2 days to pick up parts or equipment for Rusty. Really, that's how we roll around here.
This is part of the reason I want to blog. It documents the silly, crazy parts of our lives. Most people wouldn't believe half of what we do. God knew exactly what he was doing when we got married. I love the spontaneous, crazy things we do. Not everyone embraces the unknown like us. Rusty is an entrepreneur with big dreams, and I like to think of myself as the encouraging cheerleader. Both of us are very optimistic, and it has payed off more than we ever imagined! Together, we make for a pretty amazing team.
And guess who is 6 months old? This cutie! We seriously can't get enough of him. :)
